Gress a butcher was run down from behind while driving a cart near West Seattle. The auto, speeding, splintered the cart and left two women injured. Gress suffered severe abdominal lacerations and hip injuries and may not survive. Mrs Gross retained attorney James B. Murphy for damages.
City plans propose setting back the curb on Fifteenth north to allow a double track electric line. The Seattle Electric Company prepared amendments, with the franchise pending before the corporations committee. The committee will not act until the municipal street car system is resolved, and the question will go to a public vote.
Mary Shannon brings suit in the superior court seeking to clear a cloud on her property title. She alleges that the National Surety Co. and others claim an interest in the property.
The report exposes vast liabilities across Hartford, Missouri, and New York underwriters. It cites San Francisco and Washington state concerns, with projected losses reaching into the billions if all buildings are destroyed. Officials consider a law to force insurers to write policies only under their own titles and avoid cross holdings.

Marah of Tacoma a traveling representative for Swift & Co was instantly killed yesterday afternoon when he fell down a freight elevator shaft at 2412 today premises of B H Ahrens & Co The body was kept for instructions from his wife He lived at 824 Yakima av N Tacoma and may be shipped there Mr Marsh age 40 had worked for Swift & Co for some time F H Graves who was with Mr Ahrens extended his hand as Marsh fell backward striking headfirst on top of the elevator
In the San Francisco fire, the western depot of the Booklovers' Library was destroyed and the Seattle branch at 1296 Inday is closed for the fall. Seymour Eaton promoted the library scheme. Fabard Inn companies soon faced trouble and entered receivership in 1906. H. M. Rice says the Seattle unit is solvent and unexpired memberships will be redeemed if the Seattle branch does not reopen.
Howard H. Lewis, representing Great Northern railway, is reported to have purchased lots 1 2 3 4 in block 269 for 200 900. The property lies between the Moran company plant and the Centenniet rettia.
The grand jury returned a multi page indictment against George Edward Adams excashier at the local United States assay office alleging theft of gold over two to three years from assay dust and related sources. A separate indictment charged Mrs K J Wood with running a matrimonial bureau and using the mails fraudulently to solicit money from would be suitors signing Ella Wood and Ata Vaun.
The Seeing Seattle car is placed on a regular schedule by Seattle Electric. Conductor Weat leads the car this season. Currently only the afternoon trip operates, with a morning run added when tourists and sightseers arrive.
One of the largest shingle industry gatherings on the west coast opens sessions at the Lambert Mans club with delegates from British Columbia Washington and California. The goal is to raise funds as a strike insurance fund to aid in keeping the shingle market stable and assist manufacturers in strikes. Organized by the Shingle Mills bureau the meeting seeks to unite manufacturers to control the market and includes a banquet and program for visitors.
O Mase Lee charged with desertion of his wife and family has been found by local police at the request of the Charity Organization Society. He has not been arrested and no further action will be taken until Minneapolis authorities give clearer instructions.
Charney Clark aged fourteen and Kari McKinnon aged sixteen from Tacoma are in custody and being held awaiting instructions from their parents.
Local Bremerton branch issues contracts for building materials and miscellaneous stores to Island yards. Bids or responses must reach Washington D C no later than May 22.
The miners at the Boranton convention accepted the strike commission award from President Roosevelt for another three years, ending the threat of a new strike. President Mitchell condemned an atrike and the convention approved the 1905 conditions.
Police seek a woman who posed as a Chamber of Commerce relief committee member to collect funds from residents for California relief. The suspect, described as Jade or similar, fled before officers could catch her. authorities warn locals and keep a lookout for her.
At Springfield Junction near Altoona the Chicago mail and the Chicago and St. Louis express crashed at about 10 o clock. Seven cars wrecked and both engines ruined. Nine dead and scores injured. Killed: baggagemaster J. W. Herr and brakeman Frank Harder. Injured: postal clerk J. W. Wagner engineer E. J. Pickes and conductor J. H. Collina. A prior freight wreck at Union Furnace compounded the disaster with extensive delays. A special train carried the dead and injured to the city.
Reports say the steamer City of Puebla, sunk in the San Francisco earthquake shock, has been raised and workmen are repairing it. By June 1 it will be in commission on the Meat tle San Francisco route.
Water will be shut off all day Sunday on Main 1 from 8th Avenue to 8th Avenue and on Drd Avenue 8 from Main to Washington, affecting access along the two streets.

Washington May 6 leaked reports say senators Penrose and Tillman argued fiercely in private, Tillman threatening to expose alleged misdeeds while Penrose boasted affidavits from southern people. The clash paused as a physical confrontation seemed imminent before adjournment.
The steamer Deolphin of the Alaska Bteamship line left Skagway yesterday afternoon while the City of Seattle of the P C 8 Co had just arrived at Douglas and was due in Skagway. The two fast vessels left Beattle Inez Monday night within ten minutes of each other, many expected a race, but Seattle halted 12 hours at Vancouver for freight and no race occurred.
In Pabbai c New Jersey on May 4 three hundred Italian laborers rioted due to union issues over hiring. Police were overwhelmed after eight rioters and five officers were injured. The unrest halted when civilians aided officers and reinforcements restored order. one rioter and a policeman were near death.
The first Kennewick strawberry crate arrived this morning and a large crop is expected with 1,200 pickers advertised. California berries arrive in poor condition while local berries expected by early next week. Rain could aid Lake Washington harvest as warm weather slowed ripening. Local garden produce and native asparagus show quality gains versus California.

The Hotel Washington ends a storied era with its final breakfast and imminent demolition. Begun in 1888 and tied to Seattle history, the structure changed hands through Dexter Horton Co and later James A. Moore who bought it in 1902 for 265000. The building’s opening in 1902 drew President Roosevelt, while the University of Cornell funded part of the project and lost its investment to litigation.
Hi C Henry holding the general contract announces the sublet of the Summer Tacoma section to Crossund Sanders. H R Williams says work will start once materials and crews are gathered. Sections will push ahead as labor and weather permit. In Seattle Stage four will begin after street vacating arrangements.
The Queen reached port early this morning carrying 265 passengers including refugees from the stricken district. Among them are Alaska operators bound for Seattle to await northern navigation. The voyage encountered head winds causing a delay and the ship sails south again on May 9.
Kosmos steamer Arada departed San Francisco yesterday and is due in Seattle next Tuesday morning. Humboldt sails tonight for Skagway and adjacent ports with a full cargo and 80 passengers including Herbert Hogart, brother of Alaska's governor, and R. E. B. Downie from the naval pay office bound for Fort William Henry Seward.
The Maheno, first turbine steamer to cross the Pacific Passage, is set to pass Tateosh late today on its record run toward Victoria. Owned by Canadian Pacific, the vessel will operate on the Vancouver Australia route and travels at about 17.5 knots.
The Yukon river is breaking up with open water from Hoccatalinqua to Big Falmon. Fifty Mile and Thirty Mile rivers are open, and the Klondike is free of ice. Selkirk river rise is six feet, Whitehorse reports the ice gone from Lake La Barge edges, and Daweon area expected to open as warm water progresses.
