In Santa Barbara on May 2 Mrs Louisa Kentzler Douglas and her millionaire husband Benjamin Douglas were named as defendants in a breach of promise suit filed by laborer Donald Connell seeking $20,000 damages for injuries to his affections after Mrs Douglas refused to marry him in 1896. Benjamin Douglas, over 80, founder of the R G Dun agency, previously stirred headlines in 1897 by marrying his servant Louisa Kentzler who was fifty years his junior.
