The Seattle team and manager arrive in Washington for the opening half of the Pacific Northwest weekend. A bench of fame travels with the team as preparations begin at Geeta Street grounds this afternoon. The game starts at one o clock.
May 1 reports twenty two hundred restaurant workers walk out at midnight after owners refuse higher pay and shorter shifts. Most operators hold firm with around one hundred expected to yield and twelve already striking for nine hour terms.

A large blaze swept a San Juan warehouse late yesterday afternoon destroying a heavy stock of sugar and rum. The fire raged fiercely and was reported by a dispatch from New York. No further details on casualties or cause are given in the readable text.

Herman Chapin is awarded a contract to erect a four story brick warehouse measuring 108 by 130 feet on Jackson Street between numbers 165 and 175. The project, requested by Contractor Dow, has an estimated cost of 1000 dollars.
Reports from Vicksburg Mississippi show a pressional special train arriving at 8 20 am with a crowd. A rose filled route to the courthouse featured a remarks by the president and a drive through the National cemetery and battlefields. In Memphis Tennessee the president's wife attended a banquet after private secretary Cortelyou initially blocked it. Mrs Hammond organized a 100 guest ladies gathering and Mrs McKinley attended.
May 1 Pan American exposition gates were opened to the public marking the start of the six month show. Admiral Dewey and 25 officers from his fleet who entered Manila Bay three years ago tonight will gather for an anniversary dinner. Dewey spoke informally on the Philippine situation, noting the insurrection is largely ended and joking about Aguinaldo's supposed affection for the American flag.
Minister Conger arrived in Omaha at 6:08 with daughter Laura. A large Iowa delegation met him and he proceeded to Council Bluff for a city drive and reception. A formal dinner to honor Conger followed with 190 attendees including Shaw, Allison, Henderson, and Smith. A Des Moines delegation of 500 escorted him home. In Tacoma Michael McLaughlin died after falling 9 feet into an open elevator shaft at the smelter. he leaves a wife and five children.
In San Francisco on May 1 Terry McGovern defeated Oscar Gardner in Mechanics' Pavilion. McGovern knocked Gardner down and out in the fourth round to reclaim the lightweight title. Both weighed 124 pounds as Gardner showed limited speed and accuracy throughout the bout.
In Missoula Montana on May 1 Florence Poultney a department store salesgirl fell to her death in an elevator shaft. Her body was found at the bottom about an hour after the accident occurred in the building where she worked.
In Algiers a bloody duel erupted in a local restaurant between the editor of La Revauche du People and Max Regis the anti semite mayor. Seven people were wounded including a non combatant killed, with knives and pistols used and chairs wrecked. Regis was wounded twice in the head though not fatally.
Police probe gruesome discovery of limbs and bones on the river dock. A hand, foot, thigh bone and shoulder blade were found, with signs of weathering. Investigations by Captain Willard, Detective Brown, and coroner Hoye continue as theories on sex and origin are weighed.
