Indictments surfaced in a protest case involving attack counts and a statement from officials. Separately, reports describe the eruption and lava flow from Mount Etna, with towns evacuated and refugees moving toward safety as soldiers enforce evacuations and engineers race to divert the flow.
March 25 debate stalls an appropriation affecting a masseur provision in the new Senate bill. Senators Bailey and Lisle clash over the baths while Luther’s amendment is discussed. One member pled guilty to a February 18 hold up at Eighth and James and got 60 cents. another pled guilty to a March 16 hold up at M. Mateumato and received a short sentence. A third member with an exemplary prior record for supporting his widowed mother was sentenced to five years but the term was suspended.
Engine No. 1 swayed along Union Street en route to a Fourthay blaze when driver Silas Symmonds was thrown. Stoker Harry Nelson climbed aboard, steadied the horse team, and guided the engine to a halt near Geventhav Street. The driver suffered a sea and a hip injury and was taken to the city hospital.
By ae Graff United Press correspondent reports former President Theodore Roosevelt journeyed by camel and sand cars to Memphis near Cairo to view tomb and temple ruins. The expedition noted crude animal wall paintings showing species Roosevelt hunted, possibly dating to ancient times.
The chief of police ends the theatre censor post and orders all sergeants to inspect nickelodeons and first run theaters. If any show is obscene, owners face arrest. The chief says this targets evil most effectively as one man cannot patrol all venues.

In Connecticut, Alexander Goodskey of Collinsville found a cluster of trailing arbutus in full bloom, an unusually early sight. Mrs Addison Tourtellotte of East Thompson reports a pansy blooming in her front yard.
Hundreds gathered in Walla Walla last night to view a bright blue comet low in the southwestern sky. The object, believed to be Halley’s, displayed a distinct tail pointing northwest as it lit up the evening.

Hanson seeks divorce on cruelty grounds, alleging beating. Hansoh counters with a cross-complaint naming Christensen as the cause of marital strife. Judge Lindsay hears the case.
Washington March 26 The administration railroad bill introduced by Representative Townsend of Michigan was largely amended in committee and ordered favorably reported by the House committee on Interstate commerce yesterday.
A blaze in Mount Hope, Charleston area, destroyed nearly every built structure leaving about two thousand residents homeless. Militia units have arrived with tents and supplies to aid the stricken town.

William H. Harris, a cook at City hospital, mourns his missing wife who disappeared two weeks ago. He says he would not mind if she never returns and that the job he arranged for her is gone from him. He has returned to work on the night shift to cope with his loss.
Mrs William K Vanderbilt formerly Miss Virginia Pair arrived in San Francisco seeking sleep after nine nights without rest. Despite visiting friends and returning to her girlhood city, the insomnia remains, and the agitation around her plight continues to grow.

Rhoda Taylor of Lewiston Pennsylvania died several months ago and left a will posting all her estate to her husband Samuel Gillland. An old farm and stock were advertised for public sale but the sale was indefinitely postponed after the discovery of a marriage certificate tying her to Gillland.
