Under heavy bombardment Admiral Togo leads a fleet of sixteen warships and seven merchantmen into Port Arthur. The ships reach the harbor mouth and sink under land battery fire before withdrawing. Togo’s day report notes no mention of this clash.
Scripps reports from London that a major land battle may unfold soon near the Yalu and Anju rivers as Russian and Japanese forces maneuver. Russian troops hold the north bank of Anju while Japanese forces fortify the south bank, with exchanges of light firing and thousands of troops deploying toward the front.
Rome March 5 A Chee Foo telegram states that 4 000 Japanese landed at Chinnampho on the 22nd making a total of 96 000 Japanese now on Korean soil

James Duvall files in superior court against Healy Lumber Co Snohomish Land Co and others to establish his nine children rights to 10 acres near Tolt valued at 18000. The land was owned by Duvall and his wife in 1889 when she died. no administrator was appointed. Defendants gained possession on judgments against Duvall though the children never conveyed away their rights.
Jack Lebron, a minor keeper at Bryant’s saloon, was shot and killed instantly during an attempted robbery. He was about years old, married, and well known in the county. opposition to the saloon had accompanied its license, and Lebron was reportedly at the establishment when the fatal shot occurred.
The Pacific Coast Steamship Company's steamer amitee landed in port with 88000 in gold aboard. Of this 71906 came from Treadwell Gold Company and consigned to Bank of California. 17000 from Klondike billed to Canadian Bank of Commerce. Captain Wallace reports a pleasant voyage, despite Lynn Canal winds and water conditions.

Local police report Julia Price an elderly woman about seven years old is missing from 5 Vike Street. A family member says she was last seen near her home and authorities request public help to locate her.
A woman who had been in the city jail on a drunkenness charge was bailed out by friends and then disappeared days ago, with no trace found by those who know her.
The state convention of the Maccabees met in Everett with about 100 Geegates at the K T M in the old Masons hall and 50 L O T M delegates at the Fraternity hall.
