Al Waterbauer a switchman for the Great Northern was instantly killed in the Ballard yards while riding the switch engine footboard to change position. Charles Peterson a logger tried to kill Jailer John Corbett and throw him from a patrol wagon but Corbett defended himself with a right uppercut and a mule kick. Peterson was arrested in the Washington street district by Patrolman Huff and faces murder punishment in Wytheville with Chesley Peoples scheduled for execution tomorrow for the murder of John Seagie.
