Harriman Price Talks End Without City Stables Sale
After over an hour of private negotiations the Harriman railroad interests and the city council finance committee failed to agree on the price for the south end city stables block. An offer of 250000 was rejected as the committee set a value near 340000 based on square foot comparisons to Vulcan Iron Works and Denny Renton Clay properties, leaving a 90000 gap. The Harriman agents warn that the purchase is essential to their plans and may force changes if blocked.
