The city awaits Monday as Mayor Ballin g out faces action on slot machines long blamed for unrest. Cigar store owners fear closures if machines are banned while small operators depend on the revenue. Some expect readmission within weeks if owners pledge no backsliding.
Maho March 13. Prest Moyer Secretary Haywood and A Pettibone were moved from Canyon county jail to Caldwell penitentiary in the morning on prisoner demand. The jail is small and unsafe with four cells now holding 13 inmates who must cook for themselves. The governor may be asked to send militia to guard the jail.
A washout on the Southern Pacific coast line near Burbank at 1 39 oclock caused a wreck in which six persons were injured. The dining head injured include Edmond Rynard and James Lyons of San Francisco. Other injured are Charlies Nye Frank Pancieco M M Meiger F C Kenokeoveota and F P Bruised.
A defendant pled guilty this morning to obtaining property by false pretenses. He was sentenced to one year in the county jail after being arrested about two years ago while selling flour at false values. The scheme involved Novelty Mill and Centennial Mill with ten sacks of flour per capture.
Jacob Greenburg and another filer petitions in Hanford’s court seeking discharge as bankrupts. They claim initial filing in New State in 1993 and later transfer to the western Washington District. They request district court to record the proceedings. Amounts listed total 7,171.41 with exemptions indicated.
Certificates of election have been issued to all newly elected city officials by Comptroller Ripia chi-men-Elect H C Gill, R T Reynolds and T P Revelle. Law requires filing bonds and oaths of office by or before Saturday.
Alton Illinois March 13 Fred Kemps and a fellow fisherman named King were found murdered eight miles south of the city. A third fisherman has disappeared.

Mies Emily Sorenson, a Seattle girl and Vassar graduate, wed Lou M. Houseman, former sporting editor of the Chicago Inter Ocean and now western sporting representative of the New York Telegraph, in Kalamazoo Michigan last night.
Nome traffic officials say last season's freight rate of 15 dollars per ton landed will be the tariff this season. More freight is anticipated than ever, with coal nearly exhausted except government stock and lumber scarce after a recent fire. Large machinery shipments are expected, and no major outside interference or rate breaks are anticipated.

General Agent Dudley of White Pass House confirms the swift services with ample freight handling despite cold snaps and improving yet challenging weather. Ames Fish of Fish Transportation notes warmer spells end, rough trails ahead, but most outfits expect to pass through safely.
The Star reports Seattle Chinese laundries have been cleaned up and three operating buildings condemned as unsanitary. The Board of Health bans opium smoking in one laundry and orders strict cleanliness with weekly inspections by sanitary inspectors. Attorneys Mark Ten Sule and Fred H. Lyson represent the laundries in the compliance effort.
A group calling itself Americane will meet at Dabney and Wood’s 418 Pike Street on Thursday evening March 1 to organize an order to be known as Sons of St George. Members are urged to attend and participate.
In Kansas City Missouri March 11 the Interstate Commerce Commission continued hearings into freight rates. Witness EB L Without, district agent for Standard Oil, described how officials and others paid railroad workers to reveal details of shipments from independent refineries written on plain paper and unsigned. He said the Standard Oil company tracked every independent shipment from refinery to consumer.
Four parcels across from the Washington hotel at Stewart Street and Third Avenue changed hands for 100000. James A. Moore made the sale, with deed filed in the county auditor's office. Purchasers are N W Jordan and Charlee RK Hannar of Boston. The purchase signals a major Denny Hill real estate wave as a large rearage nears. Lots described as 3, 3, and 7, block 45, A A Denny's addition.
R. Murray, a 27 year old seaman who was injured after being swept overboard from the steamer Transport days ago, died today at Wayside hospital. Alcohol intoxication worsened a broken collar bone, leading to acute kidney trouble and death.
Richard Manafield White, acting for commercial and fraternal groups, completed a report on the Valencia disaster. The report has been adopted and enforced by societies that have met so far. Seattle business and fraternal bodies plan to monitor Congress on Pacific coast navigation policy and follow up already achieved work.
Miike O'Hara narrowly escaped death when struck by a Pacific locomotive at the foot of University last evening. He failed to watch in time to clear the track and was thrown sideways into the engine’s path. He was rushed to Wayside hospital by Officer J. T. Herplinck with serious injuries but not immediately fatal.
Capt. Wood commanding the dry dock Dewey reports the vessel endured a severe storm and rode it well, rating as the fleet’s best whip. He notes only five degrees of rudder loss, shows no fear of Indian Ocean tides, and remains confident of reaching the Philippines.
Storm sweeps Kansas and the Middle West bringing heavy snow and wind. Roads are blocked in Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas while rail and wire communications are interrupted.
Complaints from courcers report boys riding bicycles on sidewalks over recent days. Several runners have been knocked down and injured. Police have orders to arrest anyone found riding on sidewalks within restricted limits.
Five petitions for divorces were filed in the superior court this morning. Minnie Estella Clayton sues C. J. C. Clayton alleging years of cruel treatment including a hot coffee thrown in a restaurant in Astoria. She seeks $150 fault money and $50 a month alimony. Other cases name cruelty and faithlessness, with requests for separation and support.
Bank clearings for March 13 1906 totaled 1 948 582 041 049 180 68 dollars with an increase over the same date last year. The report shows 899 401 26 dollars as part of the figures.

A disastrous blaze in Bis er the Napa valley, reported from Cal on March 13, overwhelmed by midnight. Local firemen and townspeople fought the flames while calls to Santa Rosa for aid arrived too late. much of the town was destroyed and the cause remains a mystery with losses estimated.
Coroner Carroll was notified at 2 45 this afternoon that a man was killed in the yards of Skykomish Lumber company at Skykomish. A deputy departed to investigate the case.
The remains of Richard Holyoke Jr a Puget Sound pioneer and former Seattle resident died Sunday in Bellingham. Funeral services were conducted at Pirot Baptist Church at 11 this morning with Rev Haynes officiating. He was 72 a lumberman who came to the coast in 1860. He is survived by his widow and one son both residents of Bellingham a brother A B Holyoke in Eastern Washington and two brothers and a sister in the East.
A Southern Pacific freight train derailed two miles from Gregory California last night. Seven cars left the track and three men were killed. A wrecker went to the scene as traffic remained tied up.
Saul Schooley sues Dr J B Bagieson for 20000 alleging malpractice in judge Grillem’s court. Behoo ley says X ray treatment caused permanent injury while several physicians testify Eagleson’s care was effective and likely saved Schooley’s life.
