A garbled telegraph from Indianapolis reports former U S president Benjamin Harrison died near Todianapolis at about 1 PM on March 12. His son and daughter were summoned. messages and flowers arrived as doctors noted his critical condition earlier that day.
In Haven on March 11 Alfred Parsons from Dublin, posing as Lord Roos and traveler, tried to swindle Yale President Hadley and Columbia President Low. A letter from D White allegedly backed the ruse. Parsons attempted to cash a 1106 check. a cashier confirmed the gesture, was arrested at the depot while claiming to flee. Hadley had been alerted by Seth Low to watch for the same scam in New York.
In Kansas City on March 12 Renea Warnick aged 17 faced a disputed plan to join with a man and a minister in a ceremony that would bind both halves of the bride. Officials refused to issue the license noting the girls age and questions over the plan. The minister argued the union would be complete if both halves were included but the ceremony proceeded amid parental opposition and a delayed arrival of the bride’s father from Indian Territory.
