The Japanese warships bombarded Fort Taken-Wan in Korea Bay and then Fortresses at Port Arthur on Tuesday evening. The result of the attacks is unknown.
An unconfirmed rumor says the Japanese fleet met the Vladivostok squadron at sea Monday and engaged, with results unknown. London denies the report though credence is placed due to the Vladivostok squadron’s escape from the port and Japanese maneuvering.
The Star released early extras showing Ballinger ahead with an expected 1200 vote majority based on 7 of 682 precincts. It also projected Republican wins for T. M. Daulton, James Conway, and William H. Murphy, highlighting The Star's prompt coverage.

Ballinger the Republican will succeed Judge Humes as mayor of Seattle after the election returns. The Republicans swept the general ticket, losing three ward councilmen. Ballinger led Tucker by 1,262 with 7,453 votes to 6,191. total mayoral votes were 14,723.
Judge Richard A. Ballinger elected mayor of Seattle is described as an assertive lawyer and pioneer codifier of state laws. A former cow puncher and pistol shot, he came to Washington in 1890, practiced in Port Townsend, served as Jefferson county judge, moved to Seattle in 1897, and helped establish a leading law firm. Born July 9, 1858 in Boonesborough Iowa, he studied in Williams College and Illinois, gaining bar admission in 1886.
Joseph Hall was tried in a superior court this morning for attempted burglary at the store of J. M. Butternick on Washington street. The brief proceeding lasted little more than an hour with a fifteen minute jury deliberation.
