Count Inouye, the Japanese minister, told close friends in Berlin that Japan won several brilliant victories in the past week. He said public announcement is withheld for strategic reasons. It is believed Japanese forces have isolated Port Arthur and outmaneuvered Russians on the Yalu river.
New York dispatch reports a three days of bombardment on Port Arthur by Japanese forces. Attacks were staged Monday through Wednesday with ships engaging from nine and three eighth miles, later closing to four and three quarter miles from the forts.
