Labor dispute near Issaquah centers on Grand Ridge mine closure. Miners allege company discrimination and a scheme to disrupt the union by pitting workers against each other. Officials deny wrongdoing and cite stoppage without consent. Continued on Page Three.
Coroner Berry and jury conclude four hours of deliberation on the Gen Slocum case. Knickerbocker Steamboat Company directors and officers face charges of murder in the first degree with bail set from 1000 to 3500. Edward Flannagan and others plead not guilty and await further action as detectives pursue remaining suspects.
A large shed at the W. Hill brickyard on Twelfth avenue south burned shortly before midnight. Firefighters arrived after a long run. bricks were fused and the loss is placed around two thousand dollars. Owners are W. HM. Lewis and T. B. Lippy.
The Seattle Y M C A must raise 63000 dollars in thirty days to complete its building fund. A new facility will rise at Fourth Avenue and Madison Street with 52000 needed to start work immediately. Twenty leading business men assist, Dr. E B Kilbourne chairs the building committee and Capt B H Jarvis, Alaska customs collector, is in the city on business. He is believed to be investigating the deputy customs chief at Ketchikan over fines on Pacific steamers for alleged through transport to Seattle, and will soon return to Juneau.
A deadly blaze in Newfoundland last night destroyed the post office and customs building causing an estimated 250000 dollars in damage. Mies Triphena Nichol perished in the fire. An application for disincorporation was filed in superior court this morning.

In Everett last evening a grinding stone slipped from Dentlet Apple and cut an artery under the tongue of Mrs. Thomas A. Garrigues. Two physicians battled the bleeding for three hours. her condition remained serious.

Fire at Loeb Cutler Mill's plant in Ross threatened homes after a kerosene lamp caused a blaze. Firefighters could not find hydrants on Third Avenue West due to them being buried underground and hard to locate during the hurried response. The mill and nearby lumber piles escaped total loss, but the store building owned by James McGraw suffered over $500 in damage.
Everett June 29 The Northern Lumber Company has been turned over to Receiver W Mathewson after application by W W Black claiming 500 for legal services The company is said to owe about 60000 though insolvency is not believed.
A cloudburst along Robinson Run between Carnegie and McDonald last night left one body recovered and many missing. Property damage nears a quarter of a million dollars as Ardale area is cut off and hundreds face ruin with at least forty houses washed from foundations.
Mrs Dora Dormitzer is granted a divorce from Paul C Dormitzer a local attorney in the superior court this afternoon on the ground of incompatibility. Dormitzer contested the suit denying his wife's allegations.
The cane of the state against J Brown for conducting a chance game was continued to September 12 on motion of the defendant’s attorneys. Rumors say Prosecuting Attorney Scott may eventually dismiss the case.
The overdue steamship Shawmut of Heston Steamerhip Company was sighted passing Tatoosh at 7:15 am and is expected to reach Tacoma tonight. It has spent 20 days crossing the Pacific after leaving Yokohama on June 10, with unconfirmed rumors of boiler leaks and crew trouble prompting a possible return to Yokohama. Frank Waterhouse Company, its agents, were not notified.
The street department finished repairs to the Madrona Heights sewer outlet extending about fifty feet into Lake Washington after a prior break caused sewage to flow along the shore. Street Superintendent Walters says the dilution reduces nuisance until a trunk sewer is built along the lake shore.

In Everett on June 29 Mrs. A Harrigan wife of an electrician attempted to end her life by swallowing two ounces of laudanum. The overdose made her ill and the doctor acted quickly to save her, while she remained under care.
The city board of public works inspected Rainier valley for a large sewer system. City Engineer Thomson says the project is necessary to protect residents as the valley settles. The plan calls for a main sewer from Yesler Way and Fourteenth Avenue along Rainier Boulevard to the south sewer tunnel.
Two masked men robbed the Atlantic beer hall in Helena early today stealing $200 from several men inside. No injuries reported. Suspects fled the scene as police began investigations.
Information charging Lum Jo a Chinaman with first degree murder has been filed in Olympia Washington’s superior court. The case ties to the shooting of Don Yin and aims to illuminate the five year old mystery of Miss Effie Cullen’s death near the Eighth Street bridge.
