Counterfeiters Said Operating On Pacific Coast Rumors Reach Beattie

A Pacific Coast counterfeit ring with headquarters between San Francisco and Beattie is suspected to have members near Beattie. Treasury detectives and Pinkerton agents were tracking leads, with Wilkie and others arriving from the East to pursue the case in Seattle and San Francisco. The gang allegedly floods the area with bogus one and half dollar coins posing as real currency.

Klondikers Arrive With Gold From Dawson Creeks

The first Klondikers from Dawson arrived last evening on the City of Seattle with sacks of gold dust. Purser Pope reports as much as 3500 dollars to 250000 in others estimates. The party traveled aboard Flora Canadian and Columbian carrying vast sums of gold from Eldorado Creek. Assay office deposits reached 146000 from 61 deposits by 1 PM.

Troops on the watch in Manila for Filipino return

Manila June 17 Every precaution is taken to guard the expected return of Filipino troops under Gen Mariel and possible assault on American outposts. A force of insurgents is reported at Salidan and a battalion of the Fourteenth Infantry is sent from Imus to observe their moves and reconnoiter the surrounding country.

Humboldt in Ashore Near Calumet Point

A letter from pilot Hobt. Baughman reports the steamer Humboldt ran ashore Thursday evening in dense fog at Calumet point four miles north of Beymour narrows. The Humboldt followed Cottage City, heard its whistle, and went aground. daylight brought an easy grounding with likely float on the next high tide.

Napidan in Action Clears Filipino Threat on Pasig

June 17 dispatch reports gunboat Napidan moving from a lake to the Pasig river. On June 10 near Taguig a Filipino flanking party was spotted. Napidan fired from 560 yards crushing insurgents and saving Wheaton's troops. It then destroyed a supply train and barracks holding 500 rebels. A landing party found many wounded and nearly dead. The report also notes unconfirmed British warships at Nyack and a Paris cabinet meeting.

Big Men at the Circus Attend Event

Mayor Humes and Hon. James Hamilton Lewis attended a circus last night sitting apart to preserve political balance. The mayor enjoyed the elephants and a banquet scene while Lewis watched the menagerie and asked about tigers. Co. D. Topel of Canadian Pacific at Vancouver departed for home today.
