In the north around San Fernando, MacArthur's troops clashed with Filipino rebels this morning. The attackers were repulsed after a lively skirmish, with heavy losses reported on both sides.
Washington reports indicate the fighting force under Gep Otis is insufficient to master the Philippines situation. Insurgent renewed attacks near San on territory recently cleared of rebels are cited as evidence. Northern sprinting to hunt rebels may resume and garrisons may be needed. Aquin 14o's assassination report remains unofficial.
The Steamer Samoa under Captain F Johnson arrived at port after a rough four day voyage from San Francisco. She carried five tons of general merchandise and discharged at Schwabacher's dock. She is expected to sail Sunday and begin loading freight for St Michael as part of Empire Transportation fleet.

Last night masked burglars broke into the home of Daniel F. Gott in Norris City Illinois. They shot Mrs Gott through the head causing instant death and severely attacked Mr Gott who was left for dead. The thieves took 140 dollars and a gold watch. Broodhounds tracked the trail but failed to locate the culprits.
A new pottery trust aims to raise capital after the American Potteries company failed in April for lack of stock subscriptions. Charles Berg & company of Chicago promote the plan, requiring manufacturers to hold 75 percent of the stock with promoters taking the rest. The earlier scheme collapsed from over capitalization and was led by John St Des Porson and Geigerman & Seigerman of New York.
New York June 16 George Barrows one of Baby Clark’s kidnappers found guilty and sentenced to four years ten months at hard labor in Sing Sing Bella Anderson sentenced to four years.
Washington reports Gen Os notes northern insurgents massed near San Fernando and attacked MacArthur's troops. The assault was repulsed, with enemy casualties and many wounded. Our own losses were light, with preparations for the attack believed led personally by Aguinaldo.

The Santa Cruz docked after delivering a large cargo of powder from Alaska, making ports including Ketchikan Douglas Island Sam Dum Mary Inland Wrangel Juneau Skaeway. It will depart soon for San Francisco to serve as freight boat for the Pacific Coast company on the southern California route. For two years it operated as the powder steamer with occasional Alaska trips.
In Herman Nebraska on June 16 crowds of curiosity seekers plunder the ruins. Many arrests occur while thousands visit for souvenirs. The militia is ordered to restore order amid growing distress among the homeless residents.
Halifax June 14 report describes a terrible explosion at Caledonia mines near Glace bay Cape Breton. Over four men were at work and nearly all are believed dead. Twelve bodies recovered by 8 am and three more later. Mothers and children search for missing fathers brothers and sons.
The first Klondikers of the season from the Yukon are expected this afternoon aboard the City of Beat- Ue. Dawsonites have traveled to Bennet on the Flora which reached Whitehorse June 2, while the Flora left Dawson May 25 to begin the voyage. Passengers reached Skagway too late to connect with the Al-Ki, and it is unlikely any gold will be hauled out now. Later season appearances by Klondike kings are anticipated.

In Kendrick Idaho June 16 fruit buyers mainly from Montana visit Potlatch area to assess crops. Apple production appears as large as last year with no cold damage noted. Prune crops suffer but not seen as calamity due to limited processing and market constraints. A new freet-proof warehouse planned for September 1 promises better winter shipping prospects.
In Cincinnati on June 14, officers warned saloonkeepers that government rules prohibit round chips as machine certificators since they resemble coins. Oblong or distinct chips are tolerated for now, but a future line is expected as the practice is watched.
The tug New England is expected to visit the harbor today with the river steamer Quickstep in tow, owned by A. Ke Claff. The New England will tow lumber for a barge to be built for Mel Claflin. The tug J K Boyden, under Captain M Ke Tollokeen, is in port cleaning the bilges.

Among the passengers are A F Martyn a British engineer bound for Dawson with mining machinery and Capt Julie Begert and his wife en route to the Klondike alongside a list of names including Jules Begert Henry Merry Rosa Oberly Mra A Duncan Mra A White Mre J Horridge and others.
A near disaster occurred when five sacks of mail bound for St Michael and Cape Nome were hoisted on the Laureda. A sling failure caused sacks to open but the mail remained intact and was sent to its destination.
The Seattle Press club budgeted events for a Western Canada Press association visit. Guests arrive via Seattle and International at 4 20 tomorrow, visit Green Lake, Lake Washington cruise, and view Olympic scenery with meals and musical entertainment. An executive meeting is set for 8 pm in the editorial room.
Henry Ballantyne and his wife, once divorced after Ballantyne left to start anew, reunited in San Francisco when she encountered him in a weakened state. She aided him, they remarried, and returned to Highmore with his health improving after medical care.
