The Kiowa Comanche reservation housing lottery opened this morning in El Reno. A large crowd gathered around the drawing platform as dawn arrived, with endless vehicles entering the city to join the event. Only 1080 envelopes will be drawn today, with heavier activity expected tomorrow and the winners hoped to be announced by Thursday.
The Egbert, recently from the navy yard, is paused at the government pier to complete loading 2500 tons of generals for army posts in Alaska. Geo Lip, a volunteer, has been named quartermaster captain, succeeding Patrick Henry McCaull who becomes postmaster at Lynchburg. W H Hawes remains purser after sailing north last year as first mate.
San Francisco July 29. No change in the strike situation as compromise efforts are abandoned. Merchants discharge porters and packers amid the draymen strike and the City Front federation plans tonight to call out its 1206 members to support the machinists strike.
Marine firemen James Flannery J Brady Ea Master and J Jordan were arrested as ring leaders of a large street brawl on Washington street Saturday night. Officers Powers Freeman and Hubbard quelled the disturbance and the belligerents were released on bail. Early morning Flannagan reappeared in another fracas with Powers Freeman and Hubbard stopping it. Frank Manning James McMillan and Thos Corey were arrested with him and later bailed.
Railroad worker William Riley was arrested by Officer Medta after police found an old pair of handcuffs at headquarters. The motive for Riley’s possession remains unclear as investigators push for details.
Fredk Moll an employee of Fischer Bros wholesale grocers at 10 12 Western Avenue fell down the elevator shaft while wiring boxes this morning. He sustained painful though not serious injuries and was taken to Seattle General Hospital under Dr Willis care. He had been employed only a few days. An ambulance was summoned to transport him.
In a cornfield near Elkhart two badly decomposed men were found last evening. One pocket contained a letter addressed to A. C. Braham from his wife dated in Seattle nearly two years ago. No evidence of foul play was found.
Foresters held their annual alae at Pleasant Beach yesterday with a well attended program of sports and a dance. One highlight was a baseball game between Haltlliard and Seattle Forester teams.

An elderly destitute woman, who gave the name Mrs Bertha Humes, was caught stealing at Bon Marche on Saturday night. Officer Herold placed her under arrest and she was released on her recognizance. She is described as destitute with several young children relying on her. Virginia Secessa Terry, 22, daughter of Maj and John Terry, died at the family residence 208 Thirtieth Avenue.
Tonight's meeting will finalize ordinances for curb gutter and parking work on Second Avenue North Nob Hill Belmont and Harrison streets plus repairs on Jackson Street and Waat Thomas Fast John streets. Licenses sought include H Henkel Mignavacca Wine Co Hotel Diller N J Nyquist Jaffer G Bartholdi and A Biahee with free water for Elina Runkel. Assessment rolls for many avenues and streets also up for approval.

A shoe store owned by Frank Viveatad on Railroad Avenue between Washington Street and Yesterway was broken into last evening. Eight pairs of shoes were stolen, mostly items awaiting repair, causing significant potential losses to customers. Entry was gained by twisting the lock with a jimmy. Detective Bam Corbett is on the case and suspects may be soon apprehended.
Excavations are starting on the Green Lake school grounds for the foundation of a new schoolhouse. The building will be larger and aim to accommodate at least twice the current pupil enrollment.
The body of Max H Brecht, a former Seattle resident, drowned when a rail boat overturned at Port Gamble on July 16, was found near the site last night. Settlement of the steel strike and other troubles is said to influence the machinists talks with employers possibly leading to a conference. New York July 29 at the steel trust meeting the strike is virtually at an end and idle days depend on ratification of terms in Wall Street.
Pittsburg officials of the Amalgamated Association call a meeting of the general executive committee for Tuesday in the city to discuss the strike settlement. Leaders from both sides will hold a joint conference the same day while conditions at the villa remain unchanged. Shal positive declines to reveal details or admit being in New York.

Toney Morriss, now an inmate of the city hall, bears a non life threatening knife wound inflicted by Fernadian Marquette, with whom he shares a hanty at Charles street foot. The assailant is still at large and an interpreter will be required as witnesses cannot speak English.
