Powell 15 Put Down For Life In Racing Scandal

Five selling races and a purse event at the Meadows produced wins for three favorites as jockey Powell faced a judges ruling. Powell was banned for 24 days after an inquiry into his ride on Ruby on June 22, with his later denial of pulling the horse cited. The mile purse finale saw Gorge on favored to 1 to 2 but Gorgalette edged Florence Fonsa after leading much of the way, while Kenova finished third. Palemon won the opening race with Merride aboard, and Charles Green slid from heavy favorite to race end, finishing three lengths back. Rosaro won the third, beating Happy Lad by a length as Titus If led early.
