Seattle urged port tour by congressional panel

Boalt Finds Shrine Frolics More Than Study

Shrine water carnival to light up Lake Washington

A planned flotilla will stage a grand parade on Lake Washington Thursday night as the Shrine water carnival opens. Capt. Anderson protests ferry access and fees while the port commission asserts its municipal ferry Laschi will participate, carrying passengers at two bits apiece. The nine-boat procession will begin near Leschi Park at 7 30 and travel to Madison Park in a three hour display with fireworks and illuminated craft.

Seattle streetcar system paralyzed by transformer blast

A massive transformer at the Seattle Electric Co substation on Utah and Massachusetts streets blew at noon Thursday, halting electric streetcar lines for hours. Power to homes and factories was cut briefly. No injuries were reported while jitney buses carried the load.

Man Struck by Seattle Car on Rainier Ave

William Fox Jr. was struck by an eight Seattle, Renton and Southern northbound car on Rainier Avenue at 12 50 a m Thursday. Higgins, the motorman, says the man crossed the tracks ahead of the car and then started to recross. He believes the death was self inflicted. The man died at Seattle General Hospital at 2 40 a m.

Shriner reports theft at Bath cafe in hotel

William R. Winter a Shriner staying at a local hotel told police Thursday morning that someone pickpockets stole 220 in checks and 80 in cash from his pockets while he sat at a table in the Bath cafe near midnight Wednesday. He suspects a man who sat at the same table.

Berlin reports German forces stormed and captured Praasnysz fifty miles north of Warsaw. The town, taken by German troops for the second time, had fallen to Russians after a spring seizure following a three day battle.

Judge Refuses Release Thaw On Bail In Sanity Finding

New York July 15 Justice Hendricks refused to rule on freeing Harry K Thaw on bail after a jury found him sane. He said a decision would come tomorrow on the motion to liberate Thaw from Matteawan with the defendant to remain in custody until then. Thaw expected to spend tonight in Ludlow Street jail and hoped to depart for Pittsburg Friday if an appeal is filed. Evelyn Nesbit Thaw commented that if Harry goes to the San Francisco exposition he would own the Zone. she maintained he is insane and would prove it if freed.

Woman Hit by Jitney in Fatal Street Crash

Mrs. Maude Horsinger 303 13th Ave N sustained a fractured skull and brain concussion and Miss Beile McKenzie of the same address was badly cut after a jitney bus driven by John F. Taylor struck them at Pike and Melrose, 11 10 Wednesday night. Taylor is held at the city jail pending police investigation, claiming he slowed to a moderate pace and the woman stepped into the path from a street car. He says he stopped within 20 feet and rendered aid.
