The Star led with exclusive extras on Tracy's movements and Port Madison appearance. Its rapid reporting and aggressive coverage placed the paper at the center of Seattle's news cycle, with reporters in the posse and one grazed by a bullet during the Squakslough fight. The city demanded thousands of copies nightly.
The piece argues that despite pessimistic views, the economy remains strong with high shipyard demand. It notes bookings for 13 ships by one firm and widespread contracts in shipbuilding, plus a recent steel wage increase affecting about 100000 workers, boosting earnings by roughly 4 million annually.
The March Kicker laments harsh June weather from the Canadian boundary to the eastern United States and praises Seattle. It contrasts storms with Beattie’s fine day and mentions Tracy the outlaw and the 4000 reward. Carrie Nation is linked to a Dowie healing role.
Sheriff Cudihee and a 26 man posse pursue Tracy across Puget Sound toward Bothell after new sightings in the Bauak valley. The search along the Seattle and International railroad line grows as night falls, with vigilant guards trailing the fugitive toward the west shore.
Deputy Sheriff George Wint arrived from Port Madison with news that Tracy visited John Johnson near Port Madison on Saturday afternoon. He held the Johnson family, forced clothing and food from them, and escaped in a white boat with John Anderson, later evading capture after Johnson freed himself and alerted authorities. Tracy had earlier claimed to have killed Breece and Rawley at Fremont and slept near Woodland Park.
Tracy evaded capture by moving through woods to Meadow Point and crossing the sound with a Japanese fisherman. He landed near Port Madison at dawn, dismissed the fisherman, then sheltered at the Johnson house through the afternoon. He kept a revolver handy as authorities widened the search with telegraphs, a revenue cutter, and a Jefferson County posse joining the pursuit.
Reports from Port Madison detail Tracy's raid on the John Johnson home, abducting a hired man and stealing valuables before leaving with Smith as a companion. Authorities across King and Kitsap counties hunt Tracy and the convict Merrill, believed to be aiding a plan to reach Sidney and British Columbia, with searches spanning 40 miles of shoreline.
A fragmented OCR style notice lists workers and services with wages for Nelson Bennett Co Hoquiam and Fox Employment Agency including rigging and lumber laborers. It mentions auctioneers D C Stam and T Wilson, funeral directors Hettraworth & Bone, and other trades such as dressmaking and abstract companies in Seattle.
The sheriff suspects Tracy fled across Puget Sound aided by Meadow Point smugglers and possibly friends in Port Madison. A mysterious man and woman visited Bothell, but officials doubt the visit signified contact. If Port Madison proves false, Tracy may seek refuge near Deception Pass with the Meadow Point gang active up and down the Sound.
