Standard Sizes for Auto Parts
The standards committee of the Society of Automotive Engineers approved 23 more recommendations for standardizing automobile parts, bringing total standards to 250. Adoption by manufacturers saves money for producers and owners and simplifies car mechanisms. If parts were all made to SAE standards, the total number of parts would be 2,307, and standardization has reduced sizes and specifications by about 80 percent.

First Transcontinental Automobile Run In 1903
In 1903 the first transcontinental automobile run covered the route across the United States, taking more than two months to complete. The historic journey showcased early automotive endurance and regional testing of vehicles and roads.
Drivers Must Get License Warns Motorists
The Automobile Club of Western Washington warns that drivers of motor cars must obtain an operator’s license by August 1. The club will sell licenses at its ten field offices. Offenses trigger license color changes and possible jail time or fines. The initial license costs $1 and new motorcycle police will enforce regulations.
