A lively race for the Fifth Ward Republican Club presidency ended with W. W. McGuire winning 73 to 68 over J. M. Wrestling. A drafted constitution and by-laws were unanimously adopted. McGuire spoke briefly before acclamation-selected officers were named: Vice president T. C. Calhoun, First precinct secretary K. MacIntosh, Fifth precinct treasurer H. Rief, Fourth precinct (name incomplete).
Invitations are out for a banquet by the Young Men's Republican Club at the Lincoln corner Fourth avenue and Madison street Friday evening January 27. Scott Calhoun will be toastmaster and prominent Republicans will speak.
The United Mine Workers of America begin their national convention in Indianapolis with delegates from more than a dozen states and territories.
