Emmons shoots Gen C W Turner and Andy T Russell in a fatal duel at a saloon. Emmons dies from self inflicted wound after firing at Turner and Russell. Russell remains in serious condition. investigators describe a motive rooted in revenge and a final farewell letter from Emmons to his son.
Gen C W Turner renowned attorney dies after a shooting at the Wayside Emergency hospital following a confrontation in Andy T Russell’s saloon at 1206 First Ave. Emmons, cigar stand proprietor, is mortally wounded in a related exchange as investigators note threats and planned violence, including letters to his son and the coroner.
A Beattie dated January 7 requests the postmaster Stewart to write to a missing boy in North Dakota. The writer pleads for the boy to remain on the old ranch, citing the lack of relatives and urging caution about coming south. It includes an address line for K Emmons in Glenuilin North Dakota.
In Ravenedale at Markus saloon Lawrence Polansk, 27, fatally shoots Aleck Skrowpa, 32, and wounds Mike Skroupa, 28. Deputy Starwich arrests Polansk as a mob gathers. a sheriff prevents lynching. Polansk tells reporters the confrontation followed taunts from the Skroupa brothers.
McCabbe and Hamilton ship another batch of electric conveyors to Readinema for Koementine steamers. The cargo, like prior shipments, targets Salina Crus and will handle freight at the Tehauntepec peninsula railroad terminus.
The letter frames Mayor William Hickman Moore as clean and strong against saloon interests. Secretary Jones of the school board warns public schools in Seattle may close if coal supply is not increased. Columbia and Capitol Hill schools were closed two hours today due to fuel shortage. The University of Washington reports enough coal to last for the rest of the week after recent deliveries.
A Seattle high school minstrel show was fairly launched after a meeting of interested boys where several signed up for end men and others began preparing sketches and monologs. No outside talent will participate.
James Murphy was rejected by the council 14 to 1 for the post of streets superintendent. M. T. Maloney was appointed by Mayor Moore this morning, but the board of public works refused to recognize either Walters or Maloney, delaying bond approval and prompting questions about membership.
