Mayor Caldwell backs a new employment scheme with a federal bureau registry. Thirty plus agencies meet in room 408 to register unemployed and issue work cards that track assignments and response to calls.
The Beattle office announces a five day training course for prospective postmasters. Trainees must visit the central accounting office of their district and complete instruction. The program, organized by Postmaster Pitear Battle, divides departments including postal cashier central accounting and rural delivery with named officials guiding each section. The first trainee is James Atwood, slated for postmaster in Sultan, Washington.
Chicago January 6 railroads in the Midwest expect a business surge with new rolling stock orders. The B and Q Railroad authorized purchases of 600 stock cars 1200 refrigerator cars 2500 box cars and 3000 composite coal cars. Illinois Central expects delivery of 1000 new refrigerator cars soon. The C M and St PCo has an order for 2500 coal cars.
United States district attorney Thomas F. Revelle asked Attorney General Daugherty for a special deputy or a Washington appointee to ease a congested docket of about 25 salmon cases. Senator Poindexter indicated support for the appeal during a Seattle visit last week.
