A. D. Wilkinson, 28, a Northwestern Steel & Metal Co. laborer, died when a heavy metal drum filled with scrap iron fell onto him at the Argo junk yard. He was loading drums on a platform with coworkers when the accident occurred. His body was taken to the morgue as relatives are sought.
NEW YORK Jan 6 Helene Jeamer former star of the Greenwich Village Follies has forgiven her former sweetheart Philip Plant heir to a transportation fortune and will drop her $250000 damage suit. They were involved in a November 1920 car crash near Pelham Bay Park. Rumors of engagement preceded her injury and subsequent relocation to Seattle.
St Louis January 6 Arthur C Moeininger cashier and $260000 of bank funds are missing. Bank closed as examiners review books. Board member BE Major and Missouri finance commissioner JG Hughes report a large shortage. Meininger had not appeared. arrest for grand larceny ordered. Capital was 150000 with 110000 surplus.
The body of Casper Fosterwold, 29, of 84 Marion Street, a sailor aboard the U S lighthouse tender Heather, was brought to Seattle Friday. In Los Angeles Arthur Burch attempted suicide by leaping from a jail railing after court adjourned. Deputy Manning and Deputy Patton restrained him as he fell toward the concrete pavement below. Burch’s lawyers claim he is insane.
According to Capt. A. Hammerstrom the small boat was swamped by a large breaker. Ohlin was rescued at once while Fosterwald, entangled in ropes, died soon after being extricated.
Society buzzed as John P. Cudahy son of a Chicago meat packer and Louise Chenier Francis of St. Louis vanished on what was to be their wedding day. The couple’s whereabouts remain unknown while family and friends search and hotel staff refuse to reveal itinerary.
Deputies led by Sheriff Matt Star hunted a bandit after he fired on Ed Ellis driver of a Union Oil truck during an attempted hold up near Sunnydale. Ellis escaped as he sped toward town, the windshield damaged by a bullet at about noon.
Approximately 2,000 men will be employed for a short period next week to grade and clear suburban streets. Maj. O A Piper, superintendent of streets and sewers, announced the program under a council ordinance that appropriated 10 000 dollars.
