In Denver the supreme court inspected Seventh precinct ballots. Of 225 ballots, 169 were written by one person, 159 were Democratic and 10 Republican. Republicans caucused to decide action in the gubernatorial case, with sentiment rising to seat Alva Adams. Governor Peabody filed a contest and the case moves toward investigation of alleged fraud.
Chesterfield, aged 17, was sentenced to three years in the penitentiary by Judge Irwin for a violent assault. The judge noted the jury’s recommendation and extenuating circumstances, overruled a request for a new trial, and described Chesterfield as a troublesome prisoner already held since his arrest. Andrew Gordon died after a fall at Providence following the Minnesota incident.
In a fierce morning confrontation with alleged hold up men and train robbers, Policeman James O'Keefe was killed and Policeman Richard Birmingham gravely wounded. The officers attempted to arrest Ollie Feinberg and Frank Gaygan. Feinberg surrendered later, Gaygan wounded and captured.
United States Secret Service Agents John D Murphy and George K Byrne arrived in Seattle and took into custody Lewis P Ohlinger and J Zimmerman, former leaders of the Wooster National Bank Ohio, now charged with embezzling $2000. The bank closed last November and was found wrecked by embezzlement. The two suspects, who had fled to Victoria, were escorted back to Wooster for trial after waiving exit. Zimmerman had been drinking heavily.
