Washington February 9 Thirty railroad companies across the United States face actions by the Interstate Commerce Commission for violating the hours of service law. The suits stem from investigations into railroad accidents. The Supreme Court sustained the law in a test case against the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Names of roads involved were not disclosed.

Charles A. Austin died in Whitinsville Massachusetts aged 88 or 89 years. He never wore socks and always kept a straw hat on his head. When traveling he wore socks only to carry them home in his pocket, claiming they were uncomfortable.
Henry Mayer recalls a 32 year old Bologna from the Bauman butcher shop era. The last batch allegedly caused Bauman to fall dead outside, and Mayer saved a piece in a trunk. Recently the piece appeared petrified yet still looking freshly made, prompting curiosity about its odd preservation.
John Stanchfield attorney for the Hawley heirs announced that Edwin Hawley died intestate, leaving $40,000,000 without a will. He said there will be no will contest and that a settlement among heirs has been reached.
York court awarded William H. Powell four thousand dollars in damages after a traveling crane at the 8. Morgan Smith company plant severed three of his fingers during work. Powell sued for the injury.

Craven asserts Cotterill leads the progressive cause while opponents are labeled standpatter. Women voters and suffrage supporters credit Cotterill with advancing the amendment.
Salvatore de Carlo faced a jail claim for multiple busts including damage to crockery and windows. The prosecutor urged six months but the judge questioned naturalization and residency. The court ordered deportation, sending de Carlo back to Naples in sunny Italy.
