In Ballard at night James Bourgette, a prominent mill owner, was shot twice by H Napoleon Campbell after a family quarrel at Bourgette's doorway. Campbell fired after a confrontation following a drink at a local saloon. Bourgette expected to recover. Campbell faces a murder attempt charge.
The work of clearing the Seattle Public Market site started this morning. The weather section notes light to fresh east winds and forecasts fair conditions tonight and Sunday with the lowest temperatures reported for the past 24 hours.
