William Sproule of San Francisco was elected president of the Southern Pacific company at a special board meeting in New York. He will succeed Julius Kruttschnitt whose resignation is effective tomorrow. Sproule was also named to the board to fill the vacancy left by Paul Shoup.

Charles Rogers, 29, of Kellogg Idaho, died in Vancouver Washington after being shot in the shoulder by officer Perry Bdeg bullet is believed to have discharged during a struggle when Rogers and another man were caught attempting to rob a chewing gum machine. Rogers was arrested and while being escorted resisted, escape attempts led to shots fired. he later died at a local barn after another attempt to flee.
Six bandits robbed the Farmers' Merchants' National Bank in a Omaha suburb at 10 30 am taking between 90000 and 100000 in Liberty Bonds and 15 in cash. They forced eight customers and four clerks into a vault and looted the bank before escaping in a large touring car.
Hypolite Czechnyti, 64, a packing house laborer in Omaha, was held up and robbed of his life savings. Three unnamed men took his $13,000 in cash and $200 Liberty Bonds on the eve of his planned departure for California for health reasons.
