Two Bank of California officers testified before a grand jury about the Seattle National Bank dealings with Frank Waterhouse interests. Sacramento story reports Saizo Shimada a Japanese man shot and hacked two young Kawasaki children on a ranch. Mrs Ima Kawasaki and a seven year old daughter were wounded. Shimada died from a self inflicted gunshot near the house. Two younger children aged 3 years and 18 months lost hands. Two older children escaped.
London reports a devastating gale and hurricane across the Atlantic and English coast. Twenty eight lives and five ships lost as the storm worsens with port tales of battered steamers and distress signals from distant vessels.
New York reports the Atlantic storm is the worst in decades with ships delayed by one to three days. No major losses yet, but freighters reported sunk in London dispatches. Rescue tale tells of Gordon C Fudge crew saved by Menominee after losing masts and flooding holds.
