Tacoma December 24 Japanese resident J Watta of Sumner was jailed for failure to stop after a collision on the Seattle Tacoma highway that killed H J Dietz of Puyallup and badly bruised his wife. Deputies say Watta hubbed Dietz s car and a bus then struck head on. Dietz died en route to a hospital. Dietz was a former Seattle resident.
Chief Justice Taft made a belated Christmas call at the White House, arriving a day after Christmas as Washington observed the holiday.
Eugene V Debs plans to campaign for the release of political prisoners after his Atlanta sentence was commuted. He met with President Harding and Attorney General Daugherty in Washington and rejected full citizenship restoration. Debs declared he is a world citizen and pledged to work for others jailed for similar beliefs. He said he would likely return to Terre Haute tonight.
The Beggar's Opera company traveled from London to the Pacific Coast in a single hop, a record long jump for theater companies. Fresh from a London three year run, they staged the Christmas week premiere at the Metropolitan. This marks the first big English production to premiere in America on the Pacific Coast and the first postwar English company to visit the U S. The opera was written in 1728 by John Gay.
Police search for 16 year old George Brown who vanished Sunday from the Wabash hotel after a safe cracker familiar to him for weeks enticed him away. Brown’s father I Brown says the man planned the abduction and George was seen meeting the alleged burglar and agreeing to go to California.

Anton Hohka of 920 Eighth Ave. S. was assaulted on a vacant lot at Eighth Ave S and Dearborn St. by two bandits who strangled him with a rope, robbed him, and left him to freeze. He later identified John Lind, 27, as one assailant. Lind was arrested on an open charge. The other suspect remains at large.
Chicago police data show burglars safe blowers pickpockets and holdup men stole 3 974 326 in 1921 with almost no recoveries. Forgeries and embezzlements add an estimated 5 000 000. Bank embezzlement by a president and a Liberty bond robbery of 675 000 were noted as unrecovered or recovered amounts.
