L. H. Posner of Turnwater died at the city hospital after drinking a suspected poison in error, taken as medicine. He was found Sunday afternoon in front of 6509 Wilson Ave and transported to the hospital, where bichloride of mercury poisoning was suspected. Coroner W. H. Corson investigated Monday.
In Duranus near the Cote Azur a ten ton rock roared down the hillside on Christmas Eve as villagers fled a school service. The Juggernaut crushed cottages and tore through a town but miraculously no one was hurt. The rock halted in a dwelling’s dining room where a sleeping occupant narrowly escaped.
Dublin December 26 free state troops moved at daybreak to search Dublin houses for assailants who shot Inspector Daly of the commercial investigation department in a city street. Two insurgent gunmen fired three shots into his back wounding him seriously. De Valera escaped amidst the turmoil as President Cosgrave and Timothy Healy spoke at Christmas gatherings.
Portland December 25 The Weir mystery remains unsolved with Helen Leary claiming to have seen Cash Weir murder a girl on his house boat September 23. She said he and his son Earl then transported the body down the river in a launch. Cash Weir Mia Leary and three others are held as investigations continue. Continuous questioning has not produced a confession or clear guilt from any suspect.
Seattle residents woke to a calm Christmas morning after a south wind and rainstorm. Volunteers led by Mrs. Lindgren brought cheer, with card singers visiting hospitals and homes, a theater program for shut-ins, a reduced community sing, and gifts for children at the Day Nursery.
Federal prohibition agents arrested four men during Sunday raids on suspected moonshine operations. Jacob Cohen and Peter Brady were taken at 807 Third Ave after seizing moonshine and serving glasses. Harold Halsted, 50, was detained at his soft drink parlor 111 First Ave. Jeo Hayden, 85, was captured delivering at the Sather Hotel, 606 Pike Ave, as agents found one half gallon of moonshine. Five quarts of bonded liquor and wine and beer bottles were taken from Woodcock Pharmacy, 604 Pike Ave, where serving glasses were also recovered. No further arrests reported.

Skagit river and Stillaguamish threaten north of Snohomish while logs jam Kelso bridge and winds topple poles and signs in Seattle. Evacuation, traffic disruption, and widespread damage feared.
Leo Vatoli, 25, confessed to a series of burglaries in Seattle that furnished a house with stolen goods valued in the thousands. Police say auction houses act as fences and have recovered loot including rugs, Victrolas, furniture, clocks, and more from a Fauntleroy Place rental.
A blaze at the Chicago stockyards livestock exchange building caused about 100000 dollars in damage. The fire began in a cloak room on the second floor and destroyed offices of forty commission houses. Two firefighters were seriously injured.
A man identified as Newrider invaded a Seattle home on Christmas morning and killed Anna 17 Lilly 3 and Hans 14 Engel before shooting himself. The elder Engel wife and a daughter survived. Police and investigators documented 14 bullet holes and recovered three revolvers. Coroner and deputies led the aftermath at the West Seattle station.
Washington December 26 Kent Harding and Mrs Harding kept Christmas with limited activity under orders from Brigadier General Sawyer the president’s late physician. Mrs Harding rested after a serious illness that led to her death in summer and may join dinner if her condition permits with a small company of friends and General Sawyer present.
