Oliver T. Erickson president of the city council announces candidacy for mayor in the March election. He joins Austin E. Griffiths as municipal ownership supporters, while Mayor Gill remains undecided about entering. Erickson cites a 37 percent cut in residence lighting costs during his council tenure.
A 1915 city letter from the Public Ownership League superintendent Jos A Sloan asks Erickson to accept a mayoral candidacy. It praises his city council work and advocacy for public ownership of utilities, pledging wide petition support to show urgent popular demand if he consents.

On Lake Union near Brooklyn and Northlake Aves Veli Veroni a is found dead from a gunshot and her lover Anatole Vagiless is wounded. Police theorize a death pact went wrong with Veroni a dying in an ambulance and Vagiless failing to kill himself. A Russian letter found in the house hints at a joint suicide, while the mother and neighbors recall a night of tension and a proposed boat ride before the tragedy.
