At Braidswood a fierce early morning blaze destroyed a store and building owned by Simon J. Smith. Three persons including Smith and his daughter were found burned in the ruins after they cried out for help. The fire origin remains unknown as flames engulfed the structure.
Minnie Lindquist files a federal suit against Great Northern Railway in North Dakota alleging injuries from a collision on the Great Northern lines between Grand Forks and a city. She seeks 5000 dollars plus the return of her purse containing six dollars.
New York reports Standard Oil paid a fourth quarter dividend of 12 per share, totaling 44 million for the year. John D Rockefeller holds about one third of Standard Oil stock. since 1897 the company has paid over 275 million in dividends with Rockefeller receiving more than 90 million. Across its history the firm has distributed nearly 975 million to stockholders, far above the Pennsylvanian Railroad’s 2156 million in the same period.
