In response, licenses for cabarets were revoked near bootlegging rooms, while some venues evade licensing rules. England buzzes over a love miracle involving Viscount Grey and Lady Glenconner as rumors of engagement spread. Denver December 14. Superintendent G F E Dunne ordered miners helmetless into the Botanic coal mine at Morrison where six miners died including Dunne. Mine clerk William Sawyer, burned rescuing others, blames lack of rescue apparatus and palmoters. An investigation is expected today.
An SOS from the steamer Western Hero reported from Charlestown yard says the vessel is out of fuel and low on provisions. The ship, 400 miles off Halifax, is drifting northeastward and in need of immediate assistance.
State troops will be sent to the Southern Kansas coal fields to confront the so called Amazon army of women. Reports say the women marchers captured Sheriff Gould and two deputies during an attempt to arrest leaders. Col. M. R. McLean said 600 to 700 national guardsmen will be dispatched after Crawford county authorities asked for troops.
Franklin Kansas December 14 The Amazon army of the rump coal mine strike numbers 3000 and marches south of Franklin with the aim to invade Cherokee county. Women drag miners from pits and force them to kneel while a large American flag is unfurled and an oath to not work in Southern Kansas is ordered. The scene includes babies, children and cheering supporters as male relatives stand by.
Solomon Tartt aged 45, a Black strikebreaker, was shot as he entered Swift & Co. packing plant yards in St. Louis during the local strike. The incident marks the first casualty of the employee walkout.

In Waco on December 14 a mob of several hundred forcibly removed Curley Hackney from jail after arrest for an alleged incident involving an eight-year-old girl. Hackney, who gave Atlanta, Georgia, as his home, reportedly confessed. The mob then hanged him at a spot miles from town with Hackney directing how the noose should be fixed before his death.
An overheated blasting cap caused an explosion and fire at a portable shack on A Tate estate at 12nd St. N and Greenwood Rd. caretaker Peter Langeland was away. Engine Co. 11 under Chief Julius Kinney battled flames with a garden hose, saving the main house, garage and water tower, but the shack burned completely.
Chicago on December 14. Harry Shapiro testified that when his wife cooked a meal he always tested it on the dog named Sul. He said he feared she would poison him. The dog barked during the hearing.
River levels peak 22 feet above prior marks as the Ben Johnson dike breaches. Stanwood, Conway, Mount Vernon, and surrounding towns face widespread inundation with hundreds marooned, livestock losses rising, and limited boat transport. Trains suspended. In Fowler California on December 14 a man was shot by officers during an attempted post office robbery at Bowles. The wounded suspect refused to name himself and was captured for transfer to Fresno. Two accomplices fled as a posse hunted them all morning with no loot recovered.
Postoffice officials report mail lost in the Great Northern wreck as the train plunged into Miller River Sunday night. Mail from New York Chicago St Paul Minneapolis Spokane and tributaries were affected. Seattle shipments arrived late but complete.
Miss M Lamoore of Chicago a nurse in the armory post office building explains the shooting of Ras Cookey a negro in defense of her honor she arrived in Dallas about six weeks ago and described the incident to reporters. The victim was killed instantly by a small caliber pistol blast.
Centerville Iowa December 1 long escaped criminal known as Lucky Tommy O Connor was seen riding a inter freight train from Albia toward Centerville. Train crew members reported spotting a man matching the description aboard the train at a junction about one mile from Centerville before fading into dusk. The sighting supports theories that O Connor assisted by others escaped the Des Moines city jail and remains at large near Des Moines outskirts.
Dec 14 report from London states Jim Stewart used his only car to strike a fox that crossed his path, knocking it out. On nearing his home he encountered a rabbit by hand and captured it.
