Street Car Men to Make Records in North on Monthly Pay
The council finance committee voted 4 to 1 to switch street car trainmen from per diem to a monthly salary, aligning with firemen and policemen. The ordinance sets monthly pay from 135 to 155 dollars based on service length, replacing daily wages of 4.75 to 5.25 with overtime at time and a half. Mayor Caldwell warned the move could spur demands for days off and overtime changes, noting broader equalization among uniformed employees.

Steamer Starr to Run Mail Route to Far North This Winter
Steamer Starr will sail from Seattle Saturday night for the Far North delivering Christmas mail to communities west of Seward for the first time in years. The vessel will open the way for a complete renovation of Alaskan mail service and will operate as far as Unalaska or Dutch Harbor in the Aleutians, then into the Bering Sea in summer. It will carry a heavy Christmas mail cargo and provisions, replacing the older Dora as the northern mail ship after a period of unreliable service.
