T Cheetham first officer of the steamship Minnesota was arrested as customs uncover what may be the missing link in an opium smuggling ring. A cordon is placed around the ship and a search will be conducted for more opium. Cheetham and Ed Robson a dock guard were detained after a suspicious package containing opium valued at 440 dollars was passed to the guard.

Wendling Sentenced to Life for Girl's Murder

Joseph Wendling was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of 10 year old Alma Kellner. He told the jury he might have killed her or not and suggested execution or release. The child's mutilated body was found in St. John's Catholic church five months after she left home for mass. Wendling, then a church janitor, was arrested on circumstantial evidence.

Paris dated December 6 reports the Countess de Nicolay eldest daughter of the Marquis de Macmahon her son and the Nicolay chauffeur died when their automobile struck an express train at Lemans 120 miles southwest of Paris. All three were the sole occupants and the car was ground to bits with mangled remains.

Post Commander Evans rejected last week’s hide for Fort Lawton meat and ordered Gen Maus to seek new bids amid a suspected conspiracy among meat packers. Only three firms bid. the six month contract calls for 300 to 400 pounds daily. Frye Bruhn was lowest bidder with beef prices $1.70 per hundred higher and mutton $2.40 higher than 1909.

Elks Hold Solemn Memorial Services

Seattle Lodge of Elks held its annual Memorial meeting at the Moore theatre with a hymn, bell toll, and the reading of members' names.
