Providence Rhode Island December 6. The body of William Lewis who led a strange life here for four years was exhumed amid belief he is the New York William Lewis the missing painter who left a trunk with a body eight years ago. Investigators seek identification from locals who knew the New York Lewis. Lewis arrived with a woman he called wife and shot himself the day after saying he was shadowed.
Laborer James Stragand died after a delirium tremens episode in the city jail padded cell. He escaped into a concrete wall and fell, fracturing his skull. jailer John Corbett blames Superintendent F. W. Grant’s cost cutting for the unsafe padding. Stragand had recent heavy drinking history and prior work for Grant Smith company.
Miss Fanny St. Clair of Comaplix was found murdered in her kitchen in Revelstoke British Columbia. A passerby discovered her body amid a pool of blood with deep wounds and a torn throat. Police say the killer struck some time Thursday while the home was dark for three nights.
