Sailor Hower Sentenced for Brinkmanship and Theft

The navy department approved a four year term for W. O. Hower, a sailor desperado, in the Nipste prison ship after he held a mate up at gunpoint to abduct him from Bremerton to Seattle. He was captured and later escaped with help from Fr. Murray, John Huntley and Harvey Stauffer, who received six months each.

Mathematic error delays Seattle couple marriage license

William R. Mellon of Seattle sought a license for Nellie Bly Bywater and listed her as 14. The application was rejected due to missing parental consent. After checking family records showing Nellie born in 1896, the couple returned with proof, and the auditor approved the license.
