The Spartan from Bellingham arrives with First Mate Holmstrom in command after Captain Fjerem leapt into the sea on August 6. His body was recovered fifteen minutes later and he was buried at sea amid reports of illness.

A Hillsboro dispatch says 67 year old Michael Peters was arrested with 14 year old Mary Robinson of Beaverton. The girl alleges Peters threatened her and sought marriage. She says he took her to Sacramento then back north and promised to place her in school until she reached age. She claims six men aided in the escape.
An explosion at the Oliver powder mills in Laurel Run, Wilkes-Barre area, caused a fire and left eight employees seriously burned or fatally injured. In Helena Montana, Officer Krorizek, shot yesterday by dynamiter Gravelle, is not expected to survive his wounds.
