Mining progress and legal win mark Northwest camps
Since July 15 an average of 45 tons daily are sent to the smelter from the Tron Mine with machine count rising to six and work advanced on No 3 shaft. The Bull Frog group at Loonie employs 10 men and nears water in the 120 foot wharf. A large hoist is being prepared from the Jack Bear, with plans to sink from 30 to 466 feet and to run drifts. In Newport camp the Cometock mine title decision in Judge Hanford’s court favors Highlord Mining Milling Co, affirming property rights amid prior development and ore flow. The Center Star in Rowsland shows a major ore shoot widening to 16 feet, yielding over a ton daily under Mr Oliver Durant. A Webster mill plan hinges on the Conjecture ore, possibly loaned for grinding values. The Mountain Chief near New Denver is slated to close this week for Manchester Smelter. The Sapphire mine at New Denver ships 15 tons of ore, owned by Cot 1 EB Garrettson and partners from Tacoma.
