A French ship disaster near Carthagena results in over 300 emigrants from Spain and Sardinia stranded after collision with the Sirte. Passengers fought for boats, several killed or wounded, fishermen later saved many survivors. Officers largely rescued, many emigrants lacking clothing or funds.

Known for charitable deeds aiding Boston-area families. Arnold arrived after her death at the bedside.
Longshoremen at Nome staged a multi day strike delaying the Ohio and Orteaba until a wage dispute was arbitrated satisfactorily and ships were discharged. ADAMS RETURNS. Mr. M. Adams, assistant traffic manager of the Great Northern railroad, returned yesterday from a week in Spokane and on the Spokane Falls Northern railroad.
The Star announces a weekly contest for bright comments from children. Prizes of 2 dollars for the brightest and 1 dollar for the next brightest will be awarded, open to all readers. Submit plain legibly written remarks on one side of the paper with child and parent names and addresses.
Five hundred laborers are wanted by the Copper River Railroad Co. for work from Cordova Alaska toward the interior. Wages are 39 cents an hour with unlimited hours, and the steamer Leelawnaw is loading railroad material at Pier 1 with a locomotive and rails aboard. Chief engineer William Aimpcon will accompany the shipments to Cordova. Laborers are sought for steamers sailing from Seattle.
Harry Lawrence was arrested this morning and charged with assault and battery on John P. Minikes. The complaint states that on August 2 Lawrence, without provocation, beat the plaintiff.
An indignation meeting is set for tonight at Maple School Van Asselt where about 206 residents of southeast Seattle will voice protest against stealthy annexation. Organized by C W Prouty Captain Campbell Henry Frank Ross and others they plan a delegation to join the protest and outline a plan to fight the annexation. Residents say they were drawn into Southeast Seattle by a county boundary mistake and seek to continue opposition.

The Watson of the Anchor line left San Francisco Saturday afternoon, while the steam Queen departed yesterday bound for Seattle.
In Snohomish on August 6 a baseball game between Snohomish and Brodeck ended in a dispute between the Everett players and the umpire. The game was forfeited to Snohomish 0 to 0 after five innings with no injuries and tensions high among players.

The Buford with the Third regiment is due in Tacoma this evening. It travels from Alaska and will proceed to Eureka dock for immediate transfer to the encampment at American ice.
