Labor trusts as well as capital in 1902 Seattle debate
A Seattle letter-writer argues that organized labor can force prices and conditions, comparing labor trusts to business trusts. He contends workers’ power shapes wages, notes eight-hour rules, and warns businesses must recognize labor as a trust to compete. He cites Moran, Armour, Spreckels, and the Nagle sisters’ plight to illustrate the stakes.

Seattle Electric draws up streetcar expansion plans
The Seattle Electric Company seeks a city franchise to extend tracks fifteen blocks on East Union Street to Twenty Ninth Avenue and to connect Capitol Hill and Frink lines at Mercer Street. It aims to improve service with fewer switch waits. The firm also requests permission to rebuild Union Street tracks due to heavy Pike Street car traffic, realignments after Union Street, and potential routing along Second Avenue to Pike Street and First Avenue. The Grant Street line pays only one cent to the city treasury, unlike other blanket franchise lines at two percent, prompting talks to include Grant Street in the blanket franchise.
