Norman E. B. Mack, Democratic National Committee chairman, predicted that a Democrat will be chosen as speaker to succeed Joseph G. Cannon at the next Congress and that a Democratic governor will win in New York in November.
An unemployed 51 year old accountant and office worker writes The Star claiming fluency in English French and German with knowledge of Spanish and Italian. He is married with two children, penniless, traveling widely, and seeks employment in a city of 250000, urging someone to hire him.
Disappearance of T. A. Kendall and his parents at the Kendall ranch near Cazadero is tied to a suspected triple murder. A Japanese ranch hand is missing, and charred bone fragments, clothing, jewelry, and a wedding ring inscribed T A K were found at the scene. Authorities vow a full roundup of Japanese residents in Sonoma county as they pursue leads and search the ranch.
John Langston aged 69 collapsed at Pike Place at 11 this morning. He lived at 720 Union Street for many years and had retired from business. He was a widower and is survived by a son Hugh and a daughter. The Langstons were well known in Beattle.
UPI reports in Puerto Cortes Spanish Honduras that government troops retreat before Bonilla’s advancing army aided by American veteran Lee Christmas who commands a detachment of American gunners. Americans flee to consulates for protection as mobs threaten them and property losses mount. Christmas, noted for frequent revolutions in Central America, has long profited from rebellion.
Nearly a dozen witnesses from Alaska are expected to testify today in the court martial of Colonel George F. Cooke at Fort Lawton. The group came from Alaska to San Francisco aboard the Buford.

Muskogee Oklahoma August 4 Vice President James S Sherman is named by Senator Gore in a house committee inquiry into bribes offered to influence legislation on Indian land contracts. Gore accuses Sherman and ex Senator Curtin of pressuring Taft to approve contracts while Jacob Hamon is cited as offering a $25,000 bribe in Washington.
J S S Harrison newly elected Kimberly Idaho school superintendent wed Miss Rilla Darrow of Tacoma at the home of Mr and Mrs Harlin K B Risley 1719 Ravenna Boulevard Tacoma. W K B Terry and Marie Drew of Tacoma were the only other guests. After a tour of Sound points the couple will return to Idaho.
The investigation by the federal grand jury into the July wheat corner will begin within days. Preliminary witness examinations will be conducted before the present grand jury. findings will be handed to the next grand jury for full action.
