A rumor from Quebec dated August 3 reports Inspector Dew of Scotland Yard saying Dr. Hawley H. Crippen confessed to murdering his wife Belle Elmore Crippen in their Islington home. Details of the confession were not disclosed.

Police believe Florence Lyts was murdered by her divorced husband Charles Lyts, not killed by accident. Coroner’s inquest hears Lyte’s account that he and his son cleaned a rifle after the wife’s death, with details of a shooting while she stood in an adjoining room. Doctor Wilson testifies the victim was rational and believed the death an accident.
London August 3 King Alfonso of Spain, while granting his cabinet ministers freedom to handle the monarchy’s problems, is not planning a pleasure visit to England. He is in London to seek advice on the current crisis in Spanish affairs and the Vatican break.
Ricardo Flores Magon Antonio J Villareal and Tiberado Rivera Mexican agitators proclaimed support for a revolution against President Diaz and walked free from the Florence Territorial Prison after three years confinement. They had reportedly been railroaded to the penitentiary at the government’s request.
The court martial trying Colonel Cooke for financial irregularities has returned from Alaska and will convene this morning at Fort Lawton. Dr J F Hall former post surgeon at Fort Gibbon will testify.
In Tacoma, Aug 3, members of a theatre guild recount how Dr. Crippen’s wife vanished and later died in Los Angeles. They say their inquiry prompted Scotland Yard to reopen the case after Mrs Crippen’s supposed death and Miss Leneve’s association with Crippen.
