Apparatus Moved From Federal Site to Engine House

Cattle Killed in Smashup on Northern Pacific Line
Fifty five beef cattle died in a stock train wreck a quarter mile south of CK River Junction ten miles south of Beattie at 3 40 this morning. Eleven cars, carrying cattle, left a high trestle into a swamp after the engine car broke its coupling. Two cars were destroyed, others wrecked, and 36 cattle were shot to death or died of injuries. Loss estimated at 8000 to 9000 dollars. The train crew escaped injury and track was blocked about an hour. Cattle were bound for Frye Bruhn Co and Carstens Bros of Montana.

Firemen to Train in Life Saving Practice at Headquarters
A new life saving training school for the local fire department will operate all summer from the fire headquarters yard at Third Avenue and Main Street under Chief Cook. Ten recruits will learn hoisting, ascent, rope rescue, and use of life belts on a seven story tower, with ongoing drills two to three times weekly and daily practice.

Taku Charile and Joe Johnson of Bald Eagle tribe fought with hunting knives in an Indian village near Juneau Alaska last Friday night.
