LOUBET LIFE WAS IN DANGER AN ATTEMPT TO ASSASSINATE THE PRESIDENT OF FRANCE IN ROME. A mine damaged the Ventasel, a mine transport, which was sunk with the crew later. The Hoyarin withdrew after the mine strike. the captain saved his crew and received a letter of congratulations from the Dowager Empress.
Rome dispatch says a plot to kill President Loubet was discovered and thwarted. Similar code messages have reached prominent financiers on the bourse and Paris wires confirm the reports. Italian censorship has suppressed direct news.
