Matinee burglars terrorized Chicago Gold Coast
A man Paul Hartung and his wife Gertrude faced charges for more than 350 burglaries totaling over 100000 dollars. They used a smiling baby as a shield while the husband robbed homes, with the wife acting as lookout. Hartung held on 26000 bail. Mrs Hartung released to await new baby. Police linked the crimes to a string of afternoon thefts that alarmed residents.

San Francisco Street Car Fare History and Fares
San Francisco has never charged more than five cents for street cars and offers free transfers. Competing systems, Municipal Railway and Market Street Railway, operate with jitneys at ten cents in some streets. The city retires bonds, accumulates depreciation funds, and eyes extensions using surplus. The Market Street Railway showed nine months ending 1921 with earnings of 162387 and dividends of 176000. Headways vary: Geary Street 48 seconds, Sutter Market 45, and Market Street line 15 seconds daytime. Municipal lines total ten. six profitable, one break-even, two loss. Operating costs run 2.60 per hour per municipal car. Market pays platform workers 416 daily, city pays 5 daily with paid vacations and pensions. Superintendent Beecken predicts possible fluctuating fares and occasional three-cent months to return surplus to the public. The municipal system emphasizes service over profit.

Two Orphans a Real Triumph at Strand Theater
Film review lauds D W Griffith for elevating the classic Two Orphans with Gish sisters in a Paris backdrop. Praises acting and spectacle from Bastille to guillotine while criticizing a prologue’s political insinuations as a distraction from pure art.
