Reports from Tientsin say seventy Japanese transports were seen heading for Kinchou, 75 miles behind Port Arthur. A landing there would commence a land investment of Port Arthur by Japanese forces.
London dispatch reports a Siberian telegram stating a Japanese warship squadron has arrived near Vladivostok. The Vladivostok commandant readies defenses with feverish urgency as fortifications are bolstered in anticipation of an attack.
Chicago April 11. Bandit Niedemeier attempted self harm by opening a vein with a pencil and swallowing match heads. He is in shock from blood loss. doctors doubt his survival. He refused treatment, boasted of the act, and declared atheism while his mother and a priest visited.
A Reuters dispatch says on April 12 Japanese destroyers acting as scouts faced heavy land battery fire and withdrew to their flagship.
