St Petersburg report denies that the battleship Sevastopol has been sunk. The vessel, a sister ship to the Petropavlovsk, remains in question along with other ships as the fleet endures heavy damage and repair in harbor.
City officials blame Seattle Electric Company for non enforcement of a two year old ordinance and halted funding. A city electrician and others pushed for crossing alarms and warnings but wiring and labor delays followed a strike. A coroner’s inquest into Annie Omley's death will examine crossing visibility and car traffic safety measures.
A dispatch from Viceroy Alexieff at Port Arthur says for three hours yesterday the Japanese in two divisions bombarded land batteries and the town from a sheltered position. The Russian squadron including the Pobedia answered back from anchorage with no fleet casualties. Land losses were seven Chinese killed, five soldiers killed, and several Chinese wounded. ships sustained damage.
London reports confirm Admiral Togo pushed fireships into Port Arthur channel during the Wednesday assault and sank them, sealing the harbor and effectively neutralizing the Russian fleet in the inner bay.
