Cuban Reciprocity Bill Faces House Vote Amidtariff Clash
Washington April 14 The House Democrats pledged to abolish the refined sugar differential from Cuba and elsewhere. Richardson noted the bill aims to tear down the tariff wall, reduce Dingley rates, lower sugar prices, and aid consumers. A clash over germane amendments, especially on Cuba labor laws, dominated debate as Republicans split. The bill’s amended form is likely to pass the House, with Senate prospects uncertain. The House Judiciary committee also backed a favorable report on the Hay bankruptcy bill.
