Soldiers join Exercise Desert Rock VI at Nevada test site
Private Thomas W. Brown aged 20 of Long Beach and Private First Class Tommy Lee Simmons of Long Beach are among about 5,000 soldiers picked for Desert Rock VI at the Nevada Test Site. Brown serves with the 505th MP Battalion at the Presidio San Francisco. Simmons with the 95th Engineer Combat Battalion at Fort Ord. Private First Class James L. Freeman of Long Beach recently arrived in Japan from Korea with the 665th Transportation Company at Camp Kobe after meritorious unit commendation. Freeman, 21, attended Jordan High School and worked as a lineman before joining the Army in 1953.
